What Are the Benefits?

Both Botox and Xeomin offer a multitude of skin-smoothing and youth-boosting benefits. Botox and Xeomin are like magic wands that erase these wrinkles from the skin for those who suffer from deep, etched-in wrinkles and lines that don’t respond to over-the-counter creams and serums.

Even though injectables can help erase existing lines and wrinkles, they can also prevent new ones from appearing on the skin by limiting muscle movement. These treatments also work for people of various ages and can be used with other anti-aging treatments, like fillers and lasers.

The most well-noted benefit is temporarily eliminating lines and wrinkles, like those on the forehead, between the eyebrows, or at the corners of the eyes by slowing down muscle movements. Botox and Xeomin can also help to improve the look of:

Crow's feet

Forehead wrinkles

Jawline slimming

The 11s (between the eyebrows)

Neck wrinkles

Reduction of teeth grinding

What are Botox & Xeomin?

Botox, like all other injectable neuromodulators, including Xeomin, is derived from botulinum toxin type A. The injections are a quick treatment that smooths lines and wrinkles by temporarily blocking nerve receptors that live on the muscle for limited movement. Botox and Xeomin are two incredible advancements in aesthetics for wrinkle reduction, helping to reverse common signs of aging, like wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes, eyebrows, forehead, and neck (there are plenty of off-label uses, too). Besides cosmetic applications, Botox also has medical indications, including improving excessive sweating and alleviating TMJ-related migraines and pain (temporomandibular joint disorder). Xeomin is often called a ‘clean’ wrinkle reducer because it has fewer proteins than other injectable products.

Not all wrinkles are created equal. Some are caused by repeated muscle movements that are only visible during expression and animation. The more expressive you are, the more wrinkles form. But movement alone isn’t the only reason for wrinkles. A loss of collagen and elastin loss, thin skin, and decreased hydration in the skin can also contribute to wrinkle formation. It’s these types of wrinkles that Botox and Xeomin work to address. However, the results, which are smoother skin and less noticeable wrinkles and lines, are not immediately evident and take a few months to surface and usually last about three months. The main difference between the different neuromodulators available is their clostridium botulinum molecule, which differs slightly from one injectable to the next.

Botox, Xeomin, and other types of neuromodulators all work similarly. By injecting a small area with a specific toxin, the body sends a signal to the nerve that causes a muscle to contract. However, introducing a neuromodulator to the area prevents the nerves from sending that signal to the muscles. As a result, the muscles cannot contract and block the release of a chemical called acetylcholine. They stay relaxed and cannot create lines and wrinkles on the skin. However, once the neuromodulator wears off, the nerves start regenerating, and the muscles begin moving, causing the wrinkles to surface again.

From smoothing out lines to limiting sweating and even reducing migraines, neuromodulators are a modern advancement in medicine and aesthetics that helps improve many people’s lives.

At MD Aesthetics, we offer both Botox and Xeomin.

The Treatment Areas

The uses of injectables seem limitless, and new areas to treat continue to be discovered. While some of the more popular treatment areas are considered off-label, meaning they don’t hold an FDA-approved use but are safe to inject, the most commonly treated areas include:

How Much Does Botox Cost?

Botox and Xeomin vary in price depending on which injectable you choose, where you get injected, and who injects you. The average price is based on units, and one vial of Botox contains 50 to 100 units. For example, the forehead often requires 20 to 30 units to smooth it out. To determine the cost of your treatment, call our office to schedule a consultation where we will put a custom program together to correct your current skin concerns.

FAQs

No, Botox and Xeomin injections are not painful. However, many patients use topical numbing cream before their injections to make the treatment more comfortable. During the treatment, a very fine needle is used to deliver the product underneath the skin, which is quick and takes about 10 to 20 minutes. You may feel a mild pinch or prick as the needle enters the skin, but any feeling subsides as soon as the injections are complete.

It can take three to seven days for the results of injectables to kick in. Some people see their line-smoothing benefits even faster, while others take a little longer to notice the results.

Everyone is different, and depending on the injectable used, the treatment area, and how deep your wrinkles are, determine how many units you’ll need. We recommend a consultation with our staff for a more accurate assessment of how many units you’ll benefit from.

The right amount of a product should be injected to help soften the look of fine lines and wrinkles without completely paralyzing them (unless that’s what you’re going for).

No! Many people start injections of Botox or Xeominn in their early 20s to prevent the signs of aging. Since everyone’s skin and rate of aging is different, it’s best to schedule a consultation to determine the right time to start an anti-aging routine.

No. The nice thing about Botox and Xeomin is that you don’t need to take any time off from work or your regular schedule to recover and heal. You can return to your daily routine immediately after you leave the office.

Botox and Xeomin are safe, widely used cosmetic treatments that help improve the common signs of aging. While Botox and Xeomin are generally well tolerated, some patients experience minimal redness, dryness, bruising, or swelling after routine injections, which usually resolve independently within a few hours.

You’ll want to do a few things before your appointment to limit the risk of bruising. Make sure not to drink any alcoholic beverages the day before and the day of your appointment. You’ll also want to avoid taking blood thinners for two weeks before your appointment for the same purpose. Aspirin and certain supplements and vitamins, like vitamin E, fish oil, ginseng, and St. John’s Wort should be avoided.

After your injections, apply an ice pack to the area to reduce any potential swelling. You’ll want to take it easy–avoid heavy lifting or manual labor, no working out, and sit upright for at least six hours. You can resume your regular skincare routine right away. And if there’s any bruising, you can cover it up with makeup.
