What Are the Benefits of Laser Hair Removal?

The primary benefit of laser hair removal is to rid the face and body of unwanted hair from select areas. Some of the more popular places to treat with laser hair removal include:

The underarms

The legs

The bikini line

The back

The shoulders

The Toes

The neck

The ears

The abdomen

The upper lip & chin

The buttocks

The chest

Because there’s no need to shave or wax with laser hair removal, there are also no issues with razor burn or ingrown hairs, which can cause hyperpigmentation in the skin. So, it can reduce the risk of hair-related discoloration.

What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is a procedure that permanently eliminates unwanted hair from everywhere on the body. Before innovative advancements to the treatment, laser hair removal worked best for people with light skin and dark hair since the laser picked up this color combination best due to the high levels of pigment in the hair). Now, it works for a range of darker skin tones and lighter hair colors as long as the hair isn’t white (the laser can’t detect unpigmented hair, and the treatment will be ineffective).

To make the most out of  hair removal treatments, we use the InMode Diolaze XL, which combines high peak power with a large spot size. DiolazeXL hair removal provides easy and fast treatments with permanent results.

Diolaze XL, like other laser devices, delivers light or heat at a specific wavelength to target melanin in the hair. The light reaches a particular depth within the hair bulb to injure and halt hair growth. Essentially, it kills the hair and the follicle. The treatment requires several sessions to eradicate the hair, and the more heat the hair is exposed to while it is in its active growing cycle, the less hair grows from the follicle. However, since the hair is constantly at different stages of its growth cycle, not every hair is permanently removed. In some cases, hairs are reduced in terms of thickness and the amount of hair that grows. You can expect about 90 percent of the treated area to experience a permanent reduction in hair growth.

During an appointment, the handpiece on the device is held up to each treatment area to deliver a dose of light energy before moving on to the next one. Depending on the location, the treatment can take a few minutes to an hour. It isn’t painful, but it may feel like a rubber band snapping on the skin, so topical numbing cream is used to make it more comfortable. Afterward, the skin may be pink or red for a few hours. The hair will shed over the next few days, and re-growth will decrease with repeat treatments.

How Much Does Laser Hair Removal Cost?

A consultation is recommended to help you determine the cost of your hair removal treatment. Our team can discuss the treatment details to obtain your desired results.

We tailor hair removal treatment to your needs, so the cost will vary from patient to patient. Our team can also create a custom package exclusive to your needs and a more exact price for the treatment. Keep in mind that the number of sessions needed and the size and location of the treatment area are factors in the overall cost.

Because there’s no need to shave or wax with laser hair removal, there are also no issues with razor burn or ingrown hairs, which can cause hyperpigmentation in the skin. So, treatment can reduce the risk of hair-related discoloration.

FAQs

The length of a laser hair removal session depends on the area being treated and your hair color. Every treatment area requires a different number of sessions. Some patients see improvement after just one treatment, but, on average, about four to six sessions are needed every four weeks. So, treatment can take about six to nine months to complete and for the results to be seen. In addition, maintenance sessions are sometimes needed to treat rogue hairs and areas that need a little more help.

The ideal candidate is anyone with light skin and dark hair. However, plenty of devices can treat people with light hair and dark skin.

The results from laser hair removal are not immediate, although patients can see a change in hair growth after the first treatment. Not all hair follicles grow at the same rate, so it may appear like hair is still growing. It’s crucial to complete all of the treatment sessions to reap the full benefit. However, after a complete series of six to eight treatments, most patients see about 90% or more permanent hair loss and return for yearly touch-ups.

You will want to come to your laser hair removal appointment with your hair grown out as much as possible in the area where it will be treated. Do not wax or tweeze the hairs in the area before your session. You may be told to shave a day or two before your appointment to shorten the hair on the surface. You’ll also need to avoid tanning and using self-tanners before and after treatment so as not to fool the machine into thinking your skin is darker than it is. Make sure to show up at each appointment with clean skin, so don’t use any products on your skin, including lotions, deodorant, or anything else.

After your session, keeping the area clean and free of body products, deodorant, makeup, and lotions is essential. The skin must also be kept out of the sun and away from tanning beds and self-tanners; otherwise, the skin cannot be treated during the next appointment.

At-home hair removal devices are less effective than in-office treatments. Although they work similarly and towards the same end goal, at-home devices use lower energy levels, making the results less consistent and permanent.

You should be okay if you take care of your skin pre and post-treatment. Make sure not to go in the sun before your treatment, too. Using a laser on skin with recent sun exposure can generate too much heat.

Yes. Most patients require some maintenance treatment since some hairs may grow back. Also, not every single hair is 100% targeted, so the hair may continue to grow.
